Effect of mast cell stabilisers

Effect of mast cell stabilisers

Mast cell stabilizers (such as nedocromil and more or less cromoglycate) lead to a decreased sensitivity of inflammatory cells (e.g. mast cells) to release granules. In this way, mast cell stabilizers can prevent bronchospasm and reduce hyperresponsiveness.

In practice, these agents only have clinical importance in allergic asthma, and only a portion of the allergic asthma patients experience a benefit.

The specific mechanism of action of the mast cell stabilizers can be viewed under: nedocromil.

1

Mast cell stabilizers inhibit the factors leading to acute bronchospasm.

2

Mast cell stabilizers work by inhibiting the accumulation of inflammatory cells in chronic asthma.
