Action potential 4

By the action of the sodium-potassium pump, repolarisation continues until the transmembrane potential is returned to normal levels, i.e. the rest potential. The potassium channels will close when the membrane potential reaches -70mV.

While the potassium channel closes, still some potassium ions can move to the extracellular fluid. This event causes a small hyperpolarisation (-90mV). When the potassium channels are closed, the membrane potential returns to the normal resting level of -70mV.
