Normal cells

Normal cells

Body cells receive input from both growth stimulating factors and growth inhibiting factors. In cells with a normal controlled growth there is a balance between both of these. After binding to a receptor, the signal is transferred via a cascade of phosphorylations (signal transduction). When the signal arrives at the nucleus, transcription factors are turned off/on.

This results in the transcription of genes involved in cell division. Growth stimulating factors induce the transcription and translation of genes that promote cell division. On the other hand, growth-inhibiting factors induce transcription and translation of genes that inhibit cell division.
