Mucus and antibiotics

Mucus & antibiotics

Infection leads to hyper-secretion, partly through more active glands, partly due to the migration of neutrophils into the lumen.

The leukocyte myeloperoxidase gives sputum the green appearance, which therefore is not pathognomonic for a bacterial infection. Eradication of the infection will lead to a reduction in mucus.
