Systemic gastric acid control

Systemic gastric acid control

Gastric acid secretion is controlled both systemically and locally by neurocrine, endocrine, and paracrine factors. Acetylcholine, histamine, and gastrin are all stimulating factors. Inhibitory factors include somatostatin, prostaglandins, and epidermal growth factor (not depicted).

II. Gastric acid secretion is stimulated by distension of the stomach and presence of protein products.
