Many different cells respond to an antigen trigger in an allergic asthma response. Prostaglandins, interleukins, LTB4 and LTC4 have several actions in inflammation, and many of these substances are chemo-attractants.

The increased proliferation of these cells leads to the long-term tissue changes seen in chronic asthma.
