Systemic lupus erythematosus
Immunology of SLE
The following model has been proposed for SLE:
- Antigen-presenting cells (APCs) take up necrotic cells and their antigens.
- In an inflammatory microenvironment auto-antigens are processed by APCs and presented to autoreactive Tcells.
- Autoreactive B cells take up autoantigen and arestimulated to proliferate by autoreactive primed T cells.
- Plasma cells derived from stimulatedautoreactive T cells secrete auto-antibodies, which cause inflammatory disease.
Which of the following biological molecules is never tested positive in SLE?
Extra info: Antinuclear antibody is positive in 95% of SLE patients; anti-DNA antibody positive test occurs in 40-80% of SLE patients; rheumatoid factor may be positive in SLE.
