Therapy regimen

In general, lower doses can be prescribed for elderly people, except for the known exceptions. Below are some points to consider:

  1. always review the entire medication list of a patient
  2. consider non-pharmacological treatment
  3. discontinue any drug treatment with an unclear indication or ineffective action
  4. start with the lowest dose that is likely to be effective
  5. consider potential side effects and their impacts
  6. pay attention to symptoms probably caused by adverse drug effects
  7. consider social, economic and physical issues in order to achieve full compliance of the therapy
