Anxiety

Anxiety on a cellular level

This graphic shows the relationship between the various regulating systems of the fear network on a more cellular level. The focus is on the norepinephrine neuron and that too much NE leads to symptoms of anxiety. The graphic shows the major mechanisms for producing anxiety:

enhanced stimulation from the amygdala administration of panic-inducing drugs dysregulation in the serotonin system. The graphic also shows the relationship GABA has with the fear network (although dysregulation of GABA is not a well-defined pathophysiological mechanism for anxiety).
